Solo Explorer

Solo Explorer is a desktop companion for solo tabletop roleplaying. It replaces the pile of PDFs, dice rollers, random tables and notebook tabs with one quiet, dark-themed app - fully offline, no account, no subscription.

Explore a living sandbox

• Procedurally generated hex map (6 miles per hex) with fog of war, terrain-dependent travel times and sight radius
• Random encounters that leave camps behind - and those camps decay as in-game days pass
• A fantasy calendar you control: pass hours or days, watch the world tick
• Settlements with factions (goals, methods, rivalries, progress clocks that advance over time), shopkeepers and tavern keepers with their own agendas, quest boards, rumors and news
• Dungeons explored room by room on a minimap: search carefully to find traps and hidden caches, or rush and face the consequences - OSR-style stat lines and coin-based treasure

Keep the story

• Markdown notes with live preview, [[wiki links]], folders and drag & drop
• A dice & oracle side panel right next to your notes - every result lands in your journal or the open note with one click
• Automatic travel journal; NPCs, settlements and dungeon runs can be written into notes
• Local dictation: Whisper runs entirely on your machine (one-click model download, push-to-talk)

Make it yours

• Every generation table is editable per campaign: NPC species/roles/traits, oracle meanings, settlement problems, tavern menus, treasure, weather, the monster roster, even the month names
• Import entries from plain text files; build your own weighted random tables that can reference each other with {Table Name}
• A campaign wizard sets up world truths, calendar, start date and seed
• Optional AI assistance (bring your own OpenRouter key): continue your notes in your voice, or ask an AI game master oracle that knows your campaign's truths - off by default, nothing is ever sent unless you press the button

Your data stays yours

Every campaign is a plain folder: markdown notes and readable JSON. Edit it with any editor, sync it with any tool, back it up by copying a directory.

Early Access note: Solo Explorer is in active development. The file formats are stable and human-readable, so your campaigns will survive updates - but expect rough edges, and please report anything odd. Feedback directly shapes what gets built next.

System requirements: Windows 10/11 (64-bit), ~20 MB disk space (plus 120-610 MB if you download a dictation model). Uses the system WebView2 runtime. Dictation benefits from a GPU (WebGPU) but runs on CPU too.

Windows may show a SmartScreen warning because the installer is not code-signed yet - "More info" > "Run anyway".
